FAILURE ANALYSIS
Damage to a car, aviation engine, machine part or mold occurs due to errors in the design, raw material, manufacturing techniques, heat treatment and working conditions of that part.
While the damage is sometimes caused by one of these factors, it is often a combination of several factors. While damage sometimes causes production disruptions, in some cases, unfortunately, it causes deaths. For this reason, preventing recurring damages will sometimes save people's lives and often prevent businesses from losing production and reputation.
Damage analysis science is a branch that requires an interdisciplinary approach. Interpretations from different people are often needed to find the root cause of the damage. Design and manufacturing details, material and heat treatment characterization, examination of operating conditions should all be evaluated as a whole.
BDI Metal has been carrying out damage analysis studies for many different industries for many years. It reaches the final result by characterization of materials and heat treatment in the light of international reference standards and combining this information with design, manufacturing and working conditions.
Techniques used for characterization in damage analysis,
-
Visual and on-site inspection, obtaining preliminary damage information
-
Stereo-zoom microscope study for fractured surface
-
After metallographic sample preparation, microstructure studies with light microscopy
-
Hardness checks
-
Impact and tensile test
-
Penetrating liquid tests
-
Ultrasonic crack control
-
X-ray examination
-
Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
